Where have I been?

March 15th 2012
Old School Headquarters

Well it’s been a while. And only reason I’m posting today is because I found a new plugin that lets me speak it into the computer instead of typing. Talk about lazy!

Anyway, the last time I took measurements was January 16th.That day, I weighed 167 pounds, my biceps (hmmm, transcribed as prices — what?? ;) were14 inches, my chest was 41 inches in my gas (gut!) was 35.5 inches. Damn you Voice application.

Not sure what my measurements are today but hopefully will be back soon to give an update. In the last couple of months I’ve basically kept doing the same 30 days of discipline strategies — I only use some simple exercises like pushups, pullups, squats and ass (abs!) Well, maybe can’t rely to much on technology ;)

But anyway, the program seems to be working pretty good. I think I’m gonna step it up for the next 2 months since the wedding is approaching. I think I’m going to get a temporary gym membership. Anyway that’s enough work for one day. Back to slacking off…

It’s New Year’s Resolutions Time…

Tuesday, 12:14 AM
Old School Headquarters…

Well, back to the blog again after a 2-3 week hiatus.

Let’s get right to it.

Here are the results from Last Monday’s weigh-in:

Weight: 170 lbs (+4 lbs)
Bicep: 13.5″ (no change)
Gut: 36″ (+0.5″)
Chest: 39.5″ (no change)

Wowsers! Guess the Christmas and New Year’s Day feasts went right to the gut. Some photoage…

Looks like I’ve got myself some work to do for the New Year!

On that note, on January 2nd I started a new challenge to help set the routine for 2012, namely…

30 Days of Discipline

This is a challenge that was set up from a site I like to go to whenever I get a chance. Good stuff and has the old school techniques and mentality I like.

Part of the challenge is doing exercise, but there’s also other challenges as well to keep disciplined (like, e.g., eating 3 meals max per day and dressing your best each day, which is pretty funny considering I work from home!)

But anyway, so far I’m 100% on the challenges and I think it’s definitely helping.

On that note, here are the results from this week (i.e. today):

Weight: 167 lbs (-3 lbs)
Bicep: 13.5″ (no change)
Gut: 36″ (no change)
Chest: 39.5″ (no change)

Well, there goes the Holiday weight again :)

So it goes.

Well, that’s about it. The wedding is about 4 and a half months away, so I got to put this baby (i.e. my body) into over-drive. I’ve made a few bold decisions, like deciding to cut out all beer until the big day (which the Drinker wouldn’t agree with, I guess!)

Oh well, at least there’s still wine and hard stuff :)

I’ve also been following a regiment regarding deserts, chips and stuff like that. I’ll try to share my “simple diet tool” soon enough.

Happy New Year

On that note may I wish you, my non-existant readers, a Happy New Year. May your body look a lot better than mine does right now! (But not for long!)

Ciao.

Merry Christmas, Fatties!

Saturday, 12:42 AM
Old School Headquarters…

Well, it’s that time of year again. When eggnog flows freely, gravy abounds and the fat get fatter.

Merry Christmas fatties!

Speaking of which, I haven’t seen the other 2 average guys around here, so I can only assume they’re been busy expanding the paunches. So much the better…

Actually, can’t say I’ve been much better. Been pretty “average” actually, to say the least. Momentum is a fragile things and taking a week or  two off since I was sick has been tough to get started again. Did do a workout on Tuesday but last minute Holiday preparations have kept me from training yesterday or today (read: excuse.)

But not for long.

The vengeance against fat will be back with a fury soon…

But in the meantime, here’s some photos that should bring some Christmas Cheer to your heart… because you’ll realize you’re still skinnier than someone…

So eat up porkies. It’s that time of year again.

Oh yeah, and for the record, here’s Monday’s weigh in… (differences are with respect to 2 weeks prior)

Weight: 166 lbs (-2 lbs)
Bicep: 13.5″ (-0.5″)
Gut: 35.5″ (+0.5″)
Chest: 39.5″ (no change)

Back to Square One

Wednesday, 9:52 PM
Old School Headquarters…

Wowsers, well, I think whatever progress I’d made has been negated to zero. (Yes, for some odd reason I’ve just used the expression “negated to zero”… sorry ’bout that.)

Feeling like crap and dizzy spells last week added up to a whole lot of nothing. Then a restaurant-filled side trip the last 3 days ensured prolonged flabiness for a few extra days.

Well now I’m back, feeling a lot better and ready to rebuild the momentum. Yeehaw!

Just tried doing some chin-ups and struggled to 6 (could do 10-12 easily a couple weeks back.) Not so bad, but I got to get my shit in gear. The Holidays are near and the diet’s gonna take another hit there too.

Oh well. Small steps, right? At least it’s back in the right direction…

(Oh yeah, didn’t bother with a weigh-in this week. I usually don’t travel with my scale and measuring tape. Plus, I’m sure the results would have depressed me like hell!) Cheer up,
more flabby pics to follow next week.

A Cheat Day for the Ages

Monday, 11:07 PM
Old School Headquarters…

Well yesterday I just had the mother of all cheat days. Cheesecake, apple crisp, chocolate peanut butter cups you name it.

An Orgy of Desserts

From Left to right: It started off with an OVER-SIZED chocolate peanut butter cup… then I moved onto chocolate cheesecake… then I TOPPED it all off with a heaping portion of piping-hot apple crisp topped with vanilla ice-cream. And I still managed to lose 2 pounds this week!

Thank god the Missus was there to prepare supper (some kind of healthy soup). At least it offset some of the damage a bit (although I did have an appetizer of garlic fingers with extra cheese!)

Onward.

So, the big question is… how did this “mother of all cheat days” affect my results this week? Well, actually, it seems it didn’t!

Monday’s Weekly Weigh-In: Junk Food Miracle Diet?

The Lady is back on the scale this week. Let’s see what it says…

Weight: 168 lbs (-2 lbs)
Bicep: 14″ (no change)
Gut: 35″ (-1.5″)
Chest: 39.5″ (-0.5″)

Could it be? Is eating an insane amount of junk-food the answer to losing 1.5 inches off the gut and 2 pounds in a week?

Not sure. I’m no “dietologist” (although I remember reading in “The Truth About Abs” that one “over-feading” day per week was good. Although I’m sure white sugar was still to be avoided!)

Anywho, moving on, here are the porky pics for this week:

As I mentioned a couple days ago, started out on The Gospel According to Marshall this week. Was supposed to work out today but was feeling a bit sick (sugar hangover? :) )

Anywho, try back tomorrow I guess.

The Monthly Comparison Chart

Lastly, looking back at the blog posts looks like it’s been pretty much a month since we started this little experiment, so let’s compare…

Ab Challenge - month 1Here’s the “one month transformation” so far…

So definitely from the side view, looks like some progress has been made. That’s good. Time to get back into it and see what kind of changes the next month will hold in store. It might be a challenge tough… Christmas not exactly the “poster boy” celebration of healthy eating!

We’ll see…

To Hurl, Or Not to Hurl…

Saturday, 3:03 PM
Old School Headquarters…

That is the question.

Man, started the new workout plan on Tuesday, and it’s killing me! (Had to scale back a set cause didnt want to puke!)

Ah, the joys of getting back in shape…

In other news, here are the results from Monday’s weigh-in.

Weight: 170 lbs (+1 lbs)
Bicep: 14″ (no change)
Gut: 36.5″ (no change)
Chest: 40″ (-0.5″)

Well, not so positive. But, the lady was out of town so I’m hoping it was the fact I was doing measurements myself.

Anywho, here’s visual proof from the “fat cam”

World's worst photo?World’s worst self-photo?

Another winnerAnother winner (don’t mind the cruddy mirror!)

Well, be back on Monday hopefully with better results, better photos and no hurling to report :) .

Holiday Hangover

San Francisco CA, 6:37 AM
From the Desk of The Drinker…

Well, it looks like all the stuffing and gravy finally caught up to me… Went to the gym yesterday and it was a touch workout session, felt sluggish and and had a lot less energy than I used to. I think the over-eating finally showed its effects. Here is the summary:

Workout session # 7 on day 26

  • Lat Pull Down Close Grip Supinated, 1 set to failure: 14 reps @ 110 lbs
  • Shoulder Press, 1 set to failure: 9 reps @ 85 lbs
  • Reverse Dragon Curl, 1 set to failure: 8 reps @ 40 lbs
  • Myotatic Crunch: 10 reps
  • Cat Vomit Exercise: 10 reps

For the first time I wasn’t able to increase the number of reps from the previous session. I expected this to happen at some point, since I’m adding weights faster than my muscles can grow. But it was the first time that I had low energy during my workout, so I was kinda bummed out.

Staying off the junk food this week, hopefully results will follow!

Back From the Dead!

San Francisco CA, 8:59 AM
From the Desk of The Drinker…

Alright, I know it’s been a while since my last post, but hey… it was Thanksgiving last week here in the US so that basically means a whole cheat week instead of a cheat day. So I won’t bother mentioning my diet for the past week, you’ll get the idea when you see what happened to my weight :)

Here is an update on the past measurements and workouts:

Weekly Weigh-In on Day 15

  • Weight: 150.6 lbs (+0.6 lbs)
  • Biceps: 12.25″ (+0.25″)
  • Gut: 33.5″ (-0.5″)
  • Chest: 37.5″ (+0.5″)
  • Shoulders: 43″ (+1″)
  • Neck: 14.5″ (same)
  • Thighs: 20.5″ (+0.5″)
  • Forearms: 11″ (+0.25″)

No much change in measurements since the previous week, besides losing 0.4 lbs and gaining 0.5″ in the chest.

Workout session # 5 on day 15

  • Lat Pull Down Close Grip Supinated, 1 set to failure: 18 reps @ 100 lbs
  • Shoulder Press, 1 set to failure: 12 reps @ 70 lbs
  • Reverse Dragon Curl, 1 set to failure: 8 reps @ 40 lbs
  • Myotatic Crunch: 10 reps
  • Cat Vomit Exercise: 10 reps

This was a great workout session, I was able to lift more reps with more weight than the previous workout. Finally able to do a full 10 reps of myotatic crunches, but it was definitely a struggle.

Workout session # 6 on day 19

  • Incline Bench Press, 1 set to failure: 12 reps @ 100 lbs
  • Leg Press, 1 set to failure: 16 reps @ 220 lbs
  • Push Ups, 1 set to failure: 25 reps
  • Kettlebell swings: 50 reps @ 12 lbs

Another great workout session, even after pigging out for Thanksgiving. Could it be that all the turkey and stuffing when straight to my muscles instead of my gut? Probably not when you see my weigh-in for the following Monday…

Weekly Weigh-In on Day 22

  • Weight: 154.6 lbs (+4.6 lbs, up 4 lbs since last week)
  • Biceps: 12.25″ (+0.25″, same as last week)
  • Gut: 34″ (same, up 0.5″ since last week)
  • Chest: 38.5″ (+1.5, up 1″ since last week)
  • Shoulders: 43.25″ (+1.25″, up 0.25″ since last week)
  • Neck: 15″ (+0.5″, up 0.5 since last week)
  • Thighs: 21″ (+1″, up 0.5″ since last week)
  • Forearms: 11″ (+0.25″, same as last week)

Wow! What a change since last week, some good, and some not so good. Gaining 4 lbs in a week isn’t exactly good news, but at least I did see some increase in muscle size as well, most notably an increase of 1″ in the chest. So hopefully it’s not all stuffing and gravy…

This week should be back to normal, hitting the gym this afternoon and back on the regular eating plan/schedule, minus a few leftovers that I still have to go through (don’t you just hate it when there’s all that extra turkey leftover after Thanksgiving?)

Till next time…

And then there was one…

Saturday, 11:32 AM
Old School Headquarters…

Well, haven’t seen any posts from The Drinker in a while. I guess he must have done on a bender this week :)

I am either becoming superhuman… or delusional

Meanwhile I am becoming invincible. I finished reading “How to Get a Classic Physique” this week and yesterday I lifted a car over my head.

Well, not quite…  but I do feel I’m getting stronger. Yesterday, for the first time ever I did 10 pull ups in a row.

I started Matt’s “bodyweight” program yesterday too and hopefully that will bring in the results even faster (so far had mainly been doing all the “ups” — push ups, chin ups and pull ups.)

One thing from the book that has been making me feel amazing every morning is his “3-minute” tip for the shower (it’s not what you think, pervert!) I’d just stepped out of the shower yesterday when I breezed to 10 pull-ups.

Well, that’s about it. Just wanted to give a quick update for the week.

(And oh yeah, a few days ago I tried to eat “raw-ish” eggs — just boiled them for 4 minutes and there was a lot of the “white” that wasn’t cooked… man I think that will take some getting used to!)

Peace out punks.

Weekly Weigh-In: Going Ballistic & Mixed Results

Monday, 9:09 PM
Old School Headquarters…

Well, today’s Monday and you know what that means… measurements.

But before I get to that, a quick word. In my post a couple days ago, I kind of went crazy. A bit insane. A bit “hard-core”. For that I sincerely apologize if I offended anyone by my usage of the word… “diluted”.

Moving on… :)

OK, here’s the frightful evidence for this week (AKA photos.)

Here’s looking at you, gut…
The gut seems to protrude less, yet I gained a half inch (hmmmm…)

Here’s what the scale and tape say:

Weight: 169 lbs (-1 lbs)
Bicep: 14″ (no change)
Gut: 36.5″ (+0.5″)
Chest: 40.5″ (+0.5″)

So I gained on the chest and lost a pound overall, but yet my gut increased by half an inch. Weird. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact I’d just eaten 4 tacos filled with fat, greasy ground beef just an hour before? ;)

On the plus side, I just did a new record for chin-ups — 13 in a row and I think I coulda done a few more.

All in all positive I guess.

See ya next time – same fat time, same fat channel…
